Alarm goes off, its 4 a.m. Time to head out. Baking this morning with Manu, a French baker who owns a bakery here in Bordeaux, Pains La Fabrique near St Catherine De Rue. I arrive and the early morning prep person apparently was not made aware of my coming. I knock on the boarded and shut entrance. He yells something back, which I later learn means "fuck off". He thinks I'm homeless. (I am, but how does HE know that?)
Eventually a kinder baker shows up, David, i tell him in my broken French i am there to assist and watch. He welcomes me in, we all have a good laugh, and we get to work.
Note to self: When working in a foreign country, always bring a reference book , you might know the language, but when getting technical, you'll for sure be a bit thrown off.
